Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini has announced the guilty plea of a former NYPD officer to Manslaughter and other charges for selling fentanyl and causing a fatal overdose in 2019
“For a police officer to be selling fentanyl – a drug we are acutely aware can be fatal – he is not just breaking the law he is sworn to uphold, but knowingly gambling with people’s lives,” District Attorney Sini said. “This goes beyond criminality; it was irresponsible and morally corrupt.”
“Suffolk County is a leader in New York State on bringing manslaughter charges against drug dealers causing fatal overdoses; our Office obtained both the first indictment and first conviction in the State on these cases in 2016 and 2017 respectively,” District Attorney Sini said. “However, just because we have been successful on this front does not eliminate the need for a specific death-by-dealer statute. 15 Individuals Including Latin Kings Indicted in a Drug Distribution Ring

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”) and the DEA’s Long Island Heroin Task Force yesterday announced the indictment of 15 individuals in connection with an alleged drug distribution ring operating in Suffolk County.

“My Office has made it clear that gangs and drugs have no place in our communities,” District Attorney Sini said. “We will continue to target, arrest and prosecute dangerous gang members and their associates – particularly those who are peddling poison on our streets – to the fullest extent of the law. Together with our partners at the DEA and on the Long Island Heroin Task Force, we have not taken our foot off the pedal in our investigation and prosecution of these bad actors, even in the midst of a pandemic. When a police officer in Waverly, Ohio stopped to help a limping man, he solved a mystery that has been lingering over the town of Mentz, New York for more than 23 years, according to the sheriffâs office there.
Officials in Cayuga County, New York say that William L. Jones, the former town supervisor of Mentz, was arrested in Waverly on Sunday after fleeing New York in 1997 to avoid sentencing on a conviction of selling firearms illegally.
Jones, 71, is being held in the Butler County Jail pending his extradition to Cayuga County, according to the Journal-News. ....
