Justin Townes (“J.T.”) Earle, who died of an overdose in August aged 38, was a talented singer-songwriter cut from “the same mould” as his more famous father, Steve Earle, said Neil Spencer in The Observer. J.T. had the “same mix of Americana influences, the same wearied twang to his vocals, the same inspired way with a lyric” – and, alas, the same personal demons. On this farewell album to his beloved son, Steve Earle reprises ten of J.T.’s songs, and the results are made all the more moving by the fact that he “delivers the songs straight, only occasionally letting a sense of loss intrude”. ....

a Broken Heart, the illuminating Bee Gees documentary released last month, Noel Gallagher and a Jonas Brother reflect wryly on the vicissitudes of being in a band with your brothers, but also on how uncanny the musical entente can be.
Imagine, then, being Barry Gibb. Thanks to the munificent quirks of the 20th-century music industry, he has long sat atop vast sierras of cash generated by songwriting. The Bee Gees were screaming-meemie famous not once, but twice â first as 60s popstrels and again as disco mavens. No one talked as much about cultural appropriation then, but the Gibbs had an unabashed love of male falsetto vocal groups, soul and R&B, which they put to excellent use. ....

Elvis Costello once said a great song should be robust enough to be sung in different styles, whether that s on an acoustic guitar or with all the bells and whistles of an orchestra.
It s a theory that clearly strikes a chord with Barry Gibb. We grew up in a different world, he says. In those days, there was no such thing as genre.
Gibb puts his views into practice on new album Greenfields, taking some of the greatest songs he sang with the Bee Gees and re-recording them as big-ticket duets in a country setting. He made the album in Nashville with garlanded producer Dave Cobb, roping in some impressive guests. ....

Dolly Parton has joined Barry Gibb for a new version of the Bee Gees classic ‘Words’ â listen below.

The reworking of the 1968 track is set to appear on Gibb’s upcoming new album, ‘Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol.1’, which will featureÂ new versions of songs from the Gibb familyâs discography.
Besides Parton, the 12-track LPÂ will also see the likes of Sheryl Crow,Â Olivia Newton-John, Miranda Lambert, Brandi Carlile, and a number of others collaborate with the Bee Gees musician.
