CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - For decades, the tombs of two freed slaves and Civil War Union Soldiers laid forgotten, cloaked by thick woods next to a busy Lowcountry highway.
Morris Street Baptist Church Pastor Rev. Leonard Griffin walked aside those tombstones belonging to Corporal Samuel Ferguson and Private Pompey Grant for the first time Saturday morning.
“The stories, heroism, contributions and biographical information of those formerly enslaved patriots will be brought it to the light of the word,” Griffin said. ....

U.S. Farm Exports Forecast and Farmers Climate Change Solution
Friday Mar 5th, 2021
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.
Agricultural crime remains a serious problem in many parts of California, though reported crimes declined in some rural counties the past year.
Detectives say they’re not sure why the decline occurred, and farmers say they continue to be plagued by thefts, illegal dumping and other problems.
A new bill introduced would increase fines for illegal dumping.
Some crews that clear dump sites have been reduced due to pandemic concerns.
U.S. farm exports are forecast by the USDA to hit a record $157 billion this year, aided by a weaker dollar against many foreign currencies. ....

The $45 million predator-free project announced for South Westland yesterday was a massive win for biodiversity and the local economy, former Federated Farmers president Katie Milne says.
The five-year mountain to sea project, which encompasses the Whataroa, Okāritō and Franz Josef townships, is being supported by $3 million of Jobs for Nature funding in addition to another $9 million from DoC, and $12 million from Predator Free 2050 Ltd.
The 50 jobs expected to be created during the five-year assault on possum, rat and stoat numbers was also excellent news for a district hit harder than many by Covid-19 economic fallout, said Milne, who has taken on the role of chairing Predator Free South Westland. ....
