A 20-year-old Mt Isa man has been charged with child sex offences following investigations by Argos and the Ferny Grove Child Protection and Investigation Unit.
The man was arrested this morning when he attended a Taringa fast food business to meet what he believed to be, a 15-year-old girl. He was instead met with detectives from Argos.
The investigation began on 11 January 2021 after a referral from Western Australia Police who received intelligence the man was engaged in inappropriate behaviour with underage females online.
The offender has made contact with an undercover officer from Argos posing as a 15-year-old child on a social media application, engaging in behaviour that will be alleged constitutes the grooming of a child. ....

Queensland man charged over sexualised conversations with children
A 59-year-old man from Queensland’s Moreton Bay is expected to face Pine Rivers Magistrates Court today (12 March) accused of having sexualised conversations with two children overseas.
The Australian Federal Police’s Brisbane Child Protection Operations charged the man in January this year, after investigating a report from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), sent to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE).
The NCMEC report alleged a person suspected to be in Queensland was engaging in sexualised online chats with children located in the Philippines via Facebook. Police inquiries allegedly connected the 59-year-old to the account. ....

The International Energy Agency today announced that more high-profile energy and climate figures from around the world – including government ministers and civil society leaders – have become members of its Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions, which will hold its first meeting on 15 March.
Headed by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark, the Global Commission – also known as Our Inclusive Energy Future – will examine ways to ensure people are at the centre of clean energy transitions worldwide. It was convened by Fatih Birol, the IEA Executive Director, and is chaired by Dan Jørgensen, Denmark’s Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities, and co-chaired by Sophie Gladima, Senegalese Minister of Petroleum and Energy. ....
