PHILADELPHIA - Getting ahead of the aggressive delta variant that’s the goal of North Philly pharmacist Paul Scota.
Scota, the owner of Lehigh Pharmacy, is hosting a free COVID-19 vaccine clinic Wednesday at the Kensington Health Sciences Academy on Emerald Street from noon to 6 p.m.
He’s spreading the word that according to the city’s board of health emergency order, children 12 and up can show up and get a shot without their parents consent.  ....

Islah Johnson, 18, often arrives to work before her boss. Even through the winter months, she stood outside the restaurant before 10 a.m., waiting to be let in.
“If I’m late, it’s a problem,” she said.
Once inside, through much of this school year, she would wash dishes, cook food, take orders, run the cash register and, when she could, listen to her virtual classes through headphones on her phone.
Johnson, a Southwest Philadelphia native and senior at Paul Robeson High School, had trouble concentrating on the lessons. It was an exhausting back-and-forth, she said. ....

The two University of Pennsylvania seniors met during their first week on campus freshman year, both living in the Quad’s Ware College House, both planning to major in neuroscience and minor in chemistry, and both on their way to hoped-for careers in medicine.
“I started seeing Amanda in all my classes, in fact in every single one, from the big lectures to the small writing seminar. And I was thinking, ‘Are you following me?’ Everyone is looking for a friend, and I was lucky to have found Amanda,” says Christina Miranda, from Milford, New Jersey.
“We have been a dynamic duo ever since,” says Amanda Moreno, from Miami, who has a second minor in French and Francophone studies. ....

Teachers present snarky Valentine's Day gifts outside Mayor Kenney's house


They presented snarky Valentine s Day gifts and signs, asking for him to support safer school reopenings.
He should support the teachers more, said Leslie Grace, an art teacher at George Nebinger School in Bella Vista. So he needs to hear our voices and know that we are unified behind this fight. To not open schools until a safe plan is in place.
The CDC released federal guidelines for the first time that spell out how a school district can reopen based on conditions in their area. The plan has something called layered mitigation tactics.
