The Sanitation Service Authority has warned it will drop the full weight of the law on people who engage in flagrant and repeated illegal dumping.
SSA Public Relations Officer Carl Padmore made the vow as he visited the junction of Kensington New Road and Fontabelle for the third day after receiving reports that dumping had returned to the same illegal site that sanitation workers had cleared the day before.
Padmore revealed that surveillance video of the scene had captured the illegal dumper earlier in the day. He warned that the SSA is taking a no-nonsense approach to illegal dumping all around the island and that lawbreakers may soon find themselves in front of the courts. ....

Six charged with breaching protocols

Six men were each granted $3 000 bail when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes on Saturday morning, charged with breaching the COVID-19 protocols.
They are Damien Blackman, 30 and unemployed of Water Hall, St James; Zachary Bellamy, an 18-year-old student of Kensington New Road, St Michael; Rio Walkes, a 27-year-old barber of Lightfoot Lane, The City; Jerome Stuart, 24 and unemployed of 8th Avenue New Orleans, also in The City; Mahindra Thomas, a 20-year-old labourer, of Redmans Road, Deacons Road, St Michael; and a 15-year-old student.
They were each charged that on February 19, they contravened Paragraph 15 of the Emergency Management (COVID-19) (Curfew) (No.4) Directive 2021, that there being a directive requiring every person to observe such physical distancing and associated protocols in the interest of public health imposed in the island of Barbados, from February 18 to 28 by remaining outdoors in a group exceeding f ....

Roughly 1,000 needy families across Barbados are to benefit from food hampers from the local Muslim community.
On Monday, a team from the Jumma Mosque in Kensington New Road, St Michael put together more than 400 packages to distribute, which they said would be shared “before weekend”.
