Grants transform Wiikwemkoong greenhouse into four-season operation

Thanks to a financial contribution and a new partnership a greenhouse in Wiikwemkoong is being transformed into a four-season growing operation.
Teams are upgrading a greenhouse at Wikwemikong High through a partnership with Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth and a $30,000 contribution from RBC Future Launch.
Focus Forward national director Caitlin Patterson says becoming a four-season operation means creating a community service to bolster local food supply and provide educational opportunities.
Principal Harold Fox says there are several possibilities from tech shop students creating garden beds to having students work in the greenhouse and earn a co-op credit at the same time. ....

It was a foggy morning for the women’s 4×5 k relay in Lahti, Finland. With temperatures above freezing and high humidity, the scene was less of a winter wonderland and more of a pea soup. A low visibility scene in which eleven teams lined up at the start line with nine nations represented. On paper, this was Norway’s race and after yesterday’s podium sweep in the 15 k skiathlon there seemed to be little doubt the Norwegian women were on form. In case you missed the discussion on the Devon Kershaw podcast, the Norwegian team made its World Cup return today in Lahti, Finland after nearly two months of training and competing domestically. As predicted, neither their form nor racing gears have not been from this decision. The women in red went 1-2-3 in the 7.5/7.5-kilometer skiathlon, led by powerhouse Therese Johaug who notched her third consecutive win in the event and third career skiathlon win on the tracks in Lahti. Her total of nine career skiathlon wins is a women’s record, surpassing Johaug’s former teammate and one of the most decorated skiers of all time, Marit Bjørgen. ....
