A recent review showed the introduction of the project in five Porirua Schools led to all 1300 students being confident on a bike. Public health researcher Louise Thornley said was a big change from before the scheme when many Porirua children lacked chances to cycle. Titahi Bay School established a fleet of bikes in 2014 as part of the Porirua Bikes in Schools project after students raised money for the bikes and a modified shipping container to store them in.
