ANN ARBOR – Andrew Stevick had a humble start with a food cart in downtown Ann Arbor, but he’s brought his principled approach to eclectic cuisines to Loomi Cafe - the counter-serve space he opened in Kerrytown Market and Shops in 2019.
Stevick’s Palestinian heritage brought a Middle Eastern influence, and his experience working in South American restaurants on the East Coast lends a separate spicy flair that serves to complement the savory flavors associated with Middle Eastern dishes like lahm bi ajeen - a type of Lebanese meat pie. ....

ANN ARBOR – An annual light-up celebration in downtown Ann Arbor took a more informal approach this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In place of the usual luminary parade and large public gathering associated with FoolMoon, WonderFool Productions partnered with Ann Arbor businesses and BrushMonkeys mural artists to set up a “stroll and roll” event that had visitors traveling across downtown, Kerrytown and State Street instead of gathering in one place.
Visitors decked out in neon-colored glowing costumes - many carrying the light-up papier-mache sculptures for which the event is known - made their own parade through downtown, stopping to snap selfies, take in live music and patronize dozens of businesses that stayed open late for the event. ....

Issues Of The Environment: Paying Tribute To The Women of the Huron River Watershed Council

Overview
The Huron River is considered to be the cleanest urban river in Michigan.  Much of the credit for this status goes to the Huron River Watershed Council (HRWC) and those who saw the need for the river’s protection.  Even though HRWC has no enforcement powers, they have accomplished their goals through the use of technical data, factual information and citizen stewardship to influence decisions made by various local agencies, businesses, and individuals.
The HRWC’s work reached back to 1956, a time when Ann Arbor was expanding and pollution in the Huron River was already a growing problem.  For over 5o years, HRWC has served as a common ground where stakeholders come together to discuss collaboration and coordination between local units of government, businesses, and citizens on water management policies and programs. Throughout the years, these discussions have resulted in reports that governments and agencies have used to direct policies such as wellhead pr ....

It’s the first day of 2021 and many are looking to this year as one of hope. Though we’re still in the same pandemic as we were yesterday, there is something about Jan. 1 that instills a sense of reset and fresh focus. My New Year’s resolution is to get out of the house as much as possible once it is safe to venture outdoors unmasked again it’s almost hard to imagine, isn’t it?
Being cooped up inside has made me think of all the events and trips I’ve passed up over the years. Even small things like taking my daughters to weekday storytimes or Dancing Babies classes at AADL I won’t take that for granted when it all returns. ....
