United States: Lincoln Completes Project to Use Biogas as Vehicle Fuel – Advanced BioFuels USA

(City of Lincoln/NGV Journal) Mayor of Lincoln Leirion Gaylor Baird announced the successful completion of a project to use the biogas from a city wastewater facility to produce vehicle fuel. The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department (LTU) began the biogas sustainability initiative at the Theresa Street Water Resource Recovery Facility in 2017.
“This sustainability initiative is a major accomplishment for the city as our team continues to upgrade our infrastructure in ways that also protect our environment and quality of life,” said Baird. “With this project completed, we are now actively creating vehicle fuel that is currently being sold on the national market. This upgrade is estimated to generate $2.6 million every year, recouping our costs in just 3.3 years. The revenue will help to fund operations and further system improvements.” ....

Unprecedented winter weather in Texas has caused oil and gas prices to rise.The frigid temperatures increased fuel demand but also halted wells and refineries across the state.Â Texas rare cold snap left millions without power last night in controlled outages.Â
Wahoo officials thought they were prepared for last week s historic cold snap.
The city, which owns its own electric and gas utilities, had short- and long-term natural gas futures contracts in place, and it had a comfortable amount of natural gas in storage in Oklahoma, said Ryan Hurst, Wahoo Utilities general manager.
But then temperatures dipped to record levels, with wind chills dropping as low as the minus 40s in Wahoo. ....

Black Hills Energy approved for rate hike, refunds by Nebraska regulators

As of March 1, Black Hills Energy will increase its rates by $10.7 million to cover investments in safety, reliability, and system integrity for its natural gas service in Nebraska.
The result will be monthly bill increases of around $4.02 for average residential customers and a more variable commercial rate, based on rate class and usage. Those rates could have been higher, as Black Hills Energy had requested a hike of $17.3 million on its initial application in June last year, but the Nebraska Public Service Commission $6.6 million off that request.
It results from the company’s first rate review request in nearly a decade. Despite this, it had invested more than $450 million in its infrastructure since the last review, leading to replacements, upgrades, and maintenance of more than 500 miles of natural gas transmission and distribution lines in the state.
