By Jeff Mordock - The Washington Times - Wednesday, January 20, 2021 A Connecticut man accused of using a clear police shield to pin a Washington police officer against a door as a violent mob crushed him during the U.S. Capitol insurrection was charged with assaulting an officer, according to court documents unsealed Wednesday. The charge is among the most serious filed so far arising out of the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Most of the charges filed so far have been less severe offenses, including disorderly conduct and trespassing. Patrick Edward McCaughey III is charged with assaulting an officer, resisting or impeding an officer, civil disorder, disorderly conduct and violent entry. ....

BANNER ELK â The Banner Elk Town Council reconvened for its monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 14, in which the town voted to approve new amendments to its zoning ordinance. The town approved the new amendments after holding a brief public hearing that it had set the previous month. According to Tax Collector Cheryl Buchanan, the updated ordinance was needed in order for the town to be in compliance with state regulations that were passed the previous year. Included in the ordinance are laws regulating the use of political signs within the townâs limits. The ordinance regulates the size of the political signs and the locations which they are allowed to be erected. ....
