Long lines, big smiles at reopening of Mr. Barbecue. Popular restaurant back open nearly two years after fire

The business was started in 1962 by Tom Gallos with partners Nick Doumas and Alex Fragakis. By 1964, brothers Nick and Andy Carros had joined the business as managing partners. Ownership stakes have shifted a bit over the years, but for the most part, the Carros family has run Mr. Barbecue through the decades.
“This is a family business,” said Nick Carros, 84, who, though more or less retired, still keeps his hand in the business.
Nick’s son, Jimmy, 61, has managed the restaurant since 2007. And when, after the fire, other partners expressed an interest in selling their shares, Jimmy — who used to own Pig Pickin’ — became the principal owner. “I just love the restaurant business and I love Mr. Barbecue,” he said of the decision to become an owner and rebuild after the fire. “I think there would be a gaping hole in the community if there wasn’t Mr. Barbecue.” ....

Local Chef Teaches 'Alliance for Youth' Students Culinary Skills


GREAT FALLS, Mont – A Downtown Great Falls coffee shop is hosting free hands-on culinary classes to ‘Alliance for Youth’ students. 
Local chef Nick Stogsdill, a CMR and Culinary Institute of America graduate who works at his family’s Electric City Coffee shop, is serving up his skills and teaching students culinary lessons to carry them through life by showing them how to take care of themselves in the future.
Everyday Electric City Coffee donates their unsold items to the youth program. Stogsdill decided to take things a step further to meet the students and host some classes.

Great-grandmother encourages others to pass down their knowledge


WHITE HALL — While others stay indoors with nothing to do, a great-grandmother decided to donate her time to pass down knowledge.
Arlene Edgell, an 87 year-old resident of White Hall, was pleasantly surprised to hear her great-grandson, Logan Decker, was interested in learning to cook.
Edgell recently planned a full Sunday dinner for Decker’s family at her home, but she would not be the head chef at this event. Decker would do all the cooking, serving and preparing, under her guidance.
She planned a full menu with grape salad, spiced carrots, sweet potato casserole, baked corn and topped off with butterscotch pie for dessert. The main dish — a baked chicken dish called Chicken Perfection — requires a lot of prep work and is always a hit at Edgell’s. ....
