The continental women volleyball powerhouse, known affectionately back home as the Malkia Strikers, earned their Tokyo 2020 Olympics ticket by finishing second at the 2019 African Championships to mark their return to the global sporting jamboree for the first time since Athens 2004. With Egypt and Cameroon shattering their African dominance in recent years, Kenya are determined to improve on their 11th placing at both the Athens 2004 and Sydney 2000 Games when the women's volleyball competition spikes off in the deferred Tokyo 2020 Games start on July 24 in Japan.
African women's beach volleyball qualifier for Tokyo 2020 to be replayed Monday, 1 February 2021 The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has reportedly successfully appealed for the replay of African women's beach volleyball qualifying matches for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. According to Citizen Digital, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has annulled the results of last year's qualifying event involving Nigeria, Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cape Verde and Kenya. The tournament, held in the Nigerian capital Abuja in March, was Group C in the second round of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Olympic qualification process. Kenya, DR Congo and Cape Verde all withdrew from the competition with COVID-19 concerns, however, leaving Nigeria and Zambia to automatically progress to the final round of qualifying.
