Exclusive: NORTHCOM Developing, Testing AI Tools To Implement JADC2

WASHINGTON: Northern Command is prototyping and testing a set of AI tools to support Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) implementation, NORTHCOM officials tell Breaking Defense. Most importantly, they said, the new artificial intelligence will instantly pull together all sorts of data to give commanders a clear picture of the battlefield, enabling good, fast decisions.
The command is leading a virtual exercise, called the Global Information Dominance Exercise (GIDE) 2, March 18-23 to test three “decision aids” that use artificial intelligence/machine learning software to speed commanders’ ability to act, Col. WASHINGTON: The Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) strategy document could land on Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s desk within the next week, but the head of the Pentagon effort says huge hurdles remain to actually make it work.
Lt. Gen. Dennis Crall, who leads the Joint Staff’s J6 command and control directorate, said Tuesday the options being presented by industry for connecting far-flung forces have been lackluster. “I am looking for good enough and I have not found a good enough,” the Marine told an industry audience at an AFCEA event. ....

WASHINGTON: The Joint Staff and DoD’s Chief Data Office David Spirk have agreed to lead a new process to set data standards for all future military sensors and weapons to connect at machine speed the foundation for success in All Domain Operations, leaders of the J6 say.
“I believe all of us have come to understand for JADC2 to truly function as a joint warfighting capability, we’ve got to have the data foundation. And so, this is a critical first step,” said Army Brig. Gen. Rob Parker, JG deputy director and head of the JADC2 Joint Cross-Functional Team (CFT). WASHINGTON: The Joint Staff has called an all-hands-on-deck conference for the end of the month to hash out common data standards for future Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) operations, says Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Dennis Crall, head of the J6.
“We’re going to tackle that at the end of January in a conference [where] we’re bringing together all of the folks who have a vested interest and we are going to attempt to settle this, or at least bring in some courses of action that we can use … in the department to have our senior leaders make decisions,” Crall, who in his role is leading the Joint Staff effort to develop a JADC2 strategy, said in an exclusive interview. ....
