Lisa Wilson is the secretary at the GLH School of Nursing.
She brought her two children into this world, nurtured them through their earliest years. She packed their lunch on the first day of school, hung on for dear life as they learned to drive and went above and beyond racing them to and from school events and activities.
Now here they are, 10 years later, Lisa and her son Matthew, spending nearly every day together commuting to and from work. ....

Advanced surgery options introduced to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital | News, Sports, Jobs

LEWISTOWN Residents of Mifflin County and the surrounding region now have access to advanced surgery care options as Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital has added robotic-assisted surgery technology and upgraded a hybrid surgical suite to better serve patients.
“Robotic-assisted surgery has many benefits to the patient,” said Dr. Michael Hegstrom, chief medical officer of Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. “In general, patients and physicians prefer minimally invasive surgeries, like those offered through robotic technology, because they offer decreased risk of complications, smaller scars, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays and reduced pain.”
The da Vinci Surgical System is part of the investment in updated surgical suites now open at the hospital. The da Vinci system will be used for the following specialties: colorectal surgery including colon resection; gynecologic procedures including hysterectomy, ovary removal and uterine fibroid removal; general ....

In 2012, the Johnson brothers in Lewistown decided to begin creating a giant copper ball made of copper wire stripped from old appliances and car parts to see how big they could make it. Cecil Johnson who owned Johnson’s Garage kept the ball at his garage and they would add to it whenever there was time and material to add to it.
The world record for a copper wire ball is 922 pounds and Cecil hoped to someday break the record.
In 2013, Cecil was diagnosed with lung cancer, but he and his colleagues continued to work on the ball until May 2013 when the garage had to close because of Cecil’s cancer. He passed away in November 2013. ....
