KALAMAZOO — Police say a known felon out on parole is facing weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop in Kalamazoo.
It happened near the intersection of E. Frank Street and Scudder Court.
Authorities say they noticed the vehicle the suspect was driving had no license plate and soon discovered a small handgun and evidence of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
The 45-year-old resident of Kalamazoo was taken to the Kalamazoo County jail.

LANSING The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Gary McDowell appointed 14 members to the Migrant Labor Housing Advisory Board this month.
The appointees represent five agriculture seats, five migrant labor seats and four seats from other migrant agricultural worker related organizations.
The board will advise the department and the state on ways to alleviate obstacles in the development of adequate migrant labor housing throughout Michigan and improve conditions for the workers who are essential to Michigan’s agricultural sector. This may include recommendations on legislation or other measures. ....

Kalamazoo Public Schools will decide on hybrid vs. remote learning. Here's what some parents think.

Kalamazoo Public Schools has been doing remote virtual learning since September, when the school year began. As the district enters its third trimester, the school board will decide on Thursday, February 11 on whether to stay fully remote, or offer a hybrid option.
The hybrid plan put forth by KPS would have students in classrooms two days a week, some synchronous learning on Wednesdays, and two days of asynchronous, independent learning. 
Michele Richards is strongly in favor of returning to in-person learning; in fact, she wishes that KPS s hybrid option offered at least four days a week in-person.
Richards and her family have lived in Kalamazoo for years, but she says when it became clear that remote learning wasn t an option for her daughter, who has autism spectrum disorder, they temporarily relocated to Elk Rapids, whose schools are doing in-person learning. ....
