UGA RAs share advice and memories


Becoming a resident assistant at the University of Georgia is an experience many have shared and treasured. However, balancing a work life that doesn’t leave your dorm room can be a tricky feat.
The Red & Black asked several RAs to share why they became an RA, give some advice for prospective RAs and to share some of their best memories.
“My favorite [event] is the vibe sessions I do with my boys only. Instead of hall meetings that we have to have to give certain information to the residents, I give my boys the information, and then I do some bonding activities afterward and hang out to talk to everyone,” said Eric Kraitman, a sophomore management major and an RA in Brumby Hall. ....

They’re well-known Brooklyn roads and neighborhoods, among those across the city that draw their name from influential families of the past. But less familiar are the ties those families had to slavery.
A new campaign called Slavers of New York is aiming to change that by calling out and eventually mapping the history of slavery in New York City. The effort highlights the streets, subway stations and neighborhoods named after enslavers. ....

ThyBlackMan.com) Rather than focus on recent violence that ravaged the Nation’s Capitol, I’ll celebrate Black women!  It would be easy to join with others who’re still attempting to provide an accurate explanation for the madness. To that subject, for the time being, I’ll only say that because of the current political climate and incessant cultural conflict, I’ve become a sounding-board for the expression of legitimate fears for the Inauguration Day safety of VP-Elect, soon to be Vice-President, Kamala Harris.
While we should be concerned with the appropriate security being in place on Inauguration Day, contemporary social violence dictates that we must also be concerned about her safety every day thereafter, along with that of Mr. Biden.  We must not, however, allow those concerns to overtake our excitement of the election of Harris and Biden. ....
