Colorado Foundation for Agriculture: apply to help drive efforts to connect food and kids

The Colorado Foundation for Agriculture is accepting applications for positions on both the board of directors and the advisory committee. The importance of offering tools to teachers to incorporate agriculture into their curriculum carries greater importance all the time. According to executive director Jennifer Scharpe, those with a passion for advancing agricultural literacy should consider applying for the volunteer positions. The task of helping young people understand where their food comes from is a great one and she said the CFA needs dedicated individuals to help reach this goal. ....

“But then you read the actual initiative, and it’s ridiculous.”
From redefining animal sexual abuse to apply to common cow-calf and other animal birthing practices used by ranchers, to establishing that livestock can’t go to market until reaching a certain age, “It’s just asinine, in my way of thinking,” Samson said. ....

This is how Ernie Meyer, owner at Bay s Meat Market in Pueblo described his reaction when the Governor proclaimed March 20 as MeatOut day, encouraging people statewide to go plant-based for the day.
Agriculture is Colorado s second biggest economic sector, and Meyer says the importance of local meat producers was reflected during the pandemic as his business got busier.
“We’ve just come out of a pandemic, proving that we need to have a sustainable food source here locally . Cause there were times when it was tough to get and get shipped into our area to meet the demand when we were in a crisis situation. ....
