Work has finally begun on Everton’s new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock with the club reiterating its commitment to preserving the city’s history.
Last week Liverpool was stripped of its Unesco World Heritage status with the
Toffees’ £500million-plus waterside development listed as one of the contributing factors. However, as contractors officially moved onto the site on Monday stadium development director Colin Chong was keen to stress the importance of the locality.
“There has been a lot of talk about heritage this week, but we have been clear throughout our planning that respecting and enhancing heritage has always been one of our key principles,” he wrote in a letter to supporters. ....

Laing O'Rourke begins construction of Everton's new stadium

Laing O’Rourke will today begin the construction of Everton’s new 52,000 seat football stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool.
The Premier League club hopes to host games at the site as early as 2024.
The plans were given the go-ahead by Liverpool City councillors at a February meeting, before being approved by central government.
The stadium has been designed by MEIS architects and engineers BuroHappold.
Among other changes, the stadium s height has been reduced so that it is defined as a mid-rise building, in an attempt to address heritage concerns.
Despite the heritage concerns, the club says Bramley-Moore Dock’s location within Liverpool’s Unesco World Heritage Site and the Stanley Dock Conservation Area has been fundamental to how the project has been designed and planned. It says the stadium has been designed to respect and preserve the area s heritage, while bringing a long-standing semi-derelict dockland site back into use. ....
