Saradha chit fund scam before the Supreme Court, seeking to link Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with some of the accused and charging her government with showing “constant, deliberate and wilful non-cooperation” in the probe and of “a concerted effort to evade, avoid and escape the process of law” and “scuttle the investigation”. ....

Saradha Scam: CBI moves SC seeking arrest and custodial interrogation of ex-Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had moved the Supreme Court immediately after the HC had granted bail on October 1 and a notice was also issued by the apex court to Rajeev Kumar on November 29.

Kolkata: Fourteen months after the Calcutta High Court granted anticipatory bail to former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in the Saradha chit fund scam, the CBI has filed a fresh application seeking its cancellation and custodial interrogation. 
In the petition filed in the apex court Saturday evening, CBI says that though while granting bail the high court had made it clear that Kumar must cooperate with the probe, he has been evasive about missing pieces of evidence in relation to the probe and therefore his arrest and custodial interrogation was essential.    ....

The appointment of three IPS officers of the West Bengal cadre to various posts by the Union Home Ministry on Thursday has escalated the confrontation between the State and the Centre. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has termed the deputation order despite the State’s objection “a colourable exercise of power and blatant misuse of emergency provision of IPS Cadre Rule 1954”. The constant hostility between the State and Central governments is now taking a turn for the worse ahead of the 2021 Assembly election. The tug of war began after a convoy of BJP President J.P. Nadda came under stone pelting in the State on December 10. The BJP apparently holds the IPS officers accountable for the incident.
