The UK’s labour shortage has been exacerbated in recent weeks by the number of construction workers told to stay at home and isolate after they have come into contact with others who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The easing of restrictions has coincided with a spike in people being told to isolate by the NHS app on their phones, after they have been close to someone who has tested positive. In the first week of July, more than 500,000 people in the UK were ‘pinged’ by the app.
Rob Driscoll, legal and business director at trade body ECA, said: “It is difficult to see how businesses can plan for efficiency and productivity with a lack of clarity around availability and requirements to isolate.”
