Insecurity: Bandits using ransom from kidnappings to fund Boko Haram – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufia of Kaduna State has established a strong link between bandits terrorising the North West and the Boko Haram insurgents operating in the North East.
Governor El-Rufai, stated this on Sunday while featuring as a guest on a monitored Channels Television programme.
It has been established that the kidnapping operations (by bandits) are substantially funding Boko Haram activities in the North East.
Boko Haram has no way of getting any money and some of them have slipped and joined the ranks of the bandits, and together they are doing this to raise a large amount of money that are being used to fund the intensified operations of Boko Haram,” he said. ....

The Kaduna State Government says bandits attacked Government Science Secondary School, Ikara in Kara Local Government Area of the state in an attempt to kidnap students of the school.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attack.
He said “307 students were rescued unhurt” by troops who foiled the attempted kidnap.
The attack, according to the commissioner, took place between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.
On the foiled attempt on the school, Aruwan upon alerting security operatives on the bandits’ invasion by the students, the troops of the Nigerian Army, Police, and some security volunteers moved swiftly to the school and engaged the bandits, forcing them to flee. ....

PDP chieftain advises FG to negotiate with bandits to end insurgency

[FILES] Buhari. Photo: TWITTER/NIGERIAGOVA diplomat and chieftain of the PDP, Dr Orefo Onochie, has told the Federal Government to consider the option of negotiating with the insurgents, currently terrorizing Nigeria, if that would make the bandits to embrace lasting peace.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday, Onochie said that negotiating with the bandits would prove a wiser option in the long run.

According to him, there is nothing wrong in negotiating with bandits if that can end banditry, insurgency and kidnappings in parts of the country.
The former Nigerian envoy to the Philippines and Algeria argued that Nigeria should not continue to be held hostage by terrorists, especially in the north. ....
