Three people, including a minor girl, were wounded in separate incidents of firing in the city on Sunday, according to police officials.
A man was shot and injured in a firing incident near Gora Qabristan in the Saddar area. The injured person was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). He was identified as 39-year-old Shakir Arshad. Police said that the incident took place over resisting a mugging bid.
In another incident, 25-year-old Omar, son of Haji Ghulam, was wounded after unidentified suspects shot him over reasons yet to be ascertained. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. ....

KARACHI: A 38-year-old man was shot at and wounded by armed robbers on main Sharea Faisal.
The Saddar police said in a statement that Shakir Arshad was shot when he put up resistance to robbers near Gora Qabristan. He was shifted to the Liaquat National Hospital for treatment.
Later, Saddar SHO Arshad Afridi claimed that it was not a robbery related incident as after initial medical treatment the wounded man left the hospital and switched off his mobile phone.

Christian cemetery - Newspaper


THE Christian cemetery in Karachi, popularly known as Gora Qabristan, was formally sanctified in 1845 in Abyssinia Lines. However, it existed prior to that, as a tombstone set in the wall near the main gate of the cemetery bears an inscription from 1843. Among the buried were the British and the Polish.
Until World War II, the cemetery was in a barren area as there were no buildings between Napier Barracks and Drigh Road Cantonment. The area was quite clean and tidy and had trees around.
After partition, it faced a lot of disruption, theft and disarray. The grants from the government in Delhi ceased and the cemetery rapidly disintegrated. Subsequently, the British high commission in Karachi took interest in its repairs and an endowment fund was set aside. ....
