Figures show fall in number of Covid-19 outbreaks

The total number of Covid-19 outbreaks reduced last week, according to new figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
There were 196 outbreaks reported, compared with 265 the previous week.
The biggest reduction was seen in private houses, which fell by more than half to 36.
But there was an increase in extended family outbreaks from 13 the previous week, to 21 last week.
There was a small rise in retail outlet outbreaks to four, compared with two the previous week.
Workplace outbreaks reduced to 29, compared with 36 the previous week.
The data is for the week to Saturday 30 January, during which the HSE resumed contact tracing of close contacts. ....

Covid-19 patients in Irish hospitals jump by 105 overnight to 1,838 people as ICUs across the country reach surge levels

THE number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in hospitals has jumped by 105 overnight to 1,838 people.
People being treated in ICU with the virus has also risen to 176, with just seven free intensive care beds left in Dublin.

Last night it was reported that three people have been admitted to ICU aged between 19 and 34, and a further 18 patients aged 35 to 54.
Dr Colman O Loughlin, an intensive care consultant at the Mater hospital in Dublin, said that although hospitals are under extreme pressure there is a high recovery rate for sick patients. ....
