Need a job? The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is accepting applications for hundreds of seasonal positions.
The openings, most in state parks, forests and natural and historic sites, include naturalists, history educators, visitor service assistants, trail stewards, office assistants, lifeguards and maintenance personnel.
“From leading nature tours to patrolling with our State Park Police, spending the spring and summer at work in New Jersey’s state parks can be a great entrée to an environmental career,” said acting Commissioner Shawn LaTourette.
The State Park Service follows all COVID-19 protocols and provides all employees with the essential personal protective equipment needed while at work. ....

Walpack NJ: Tilted barn forces closure of Delaware Water Gap park highway

WALPACK A portion of Route 615 in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is closed because of the potential collapse of a historic barn onto the highway.
Late Monday afternoon, park officials closed the road between Haney s Mill and Pompey Ridge Road until further notice as experts look at the unstable barn at the Chado Farm complex in Walpack Township, where a former Olympic equestrian learned to ride and trained.
The side wall of the barn that runs parallel to 615 is bulging and leaning toward the road, posing a hazard to drivers if it were to fall or collapse, park officials said. ....

Repairs to Four Delaware Water Gap Bridges to Begin in April : CEG

Parts of U.S. Highway 209 in far eastern Pennsylvania, the most heavily traveled road owned by the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, will be closed or have restricted traffic beginning in spring 2021 as improvements and upgrades are done on four bridge structures.
The work will begin in April and take approximately a year to complete, according to park officials. The bridges to be repaired are over Bushkill Creek at Milepost 1.2; Toms Creek at MP 4.7; Adams Creek at MP 14.2; and the large culvert which directs Conashaugh Creek under the road at MP 16.5. ....

National Park Service closes Delaware River in water gap park

The combination of strong winds, high humidity and daytime temperatures, along with the heavy rainfall, will cause rapid snow melt and could lead to flash flooding on streams and in low-lying areas and in areas with poor drainage.
The storm is also forecast to drop nearly as much rain in parts of Pennsylvania and New York which were hit with up to four feet of snow last week. Those areas drain into the upper Delaware River which then flows downstream through the park.
There will be a swift rise in water levels within the Delaware River corridor over the next 36 hours. ....
