Colorado COVID-19 Outbreaks Spike in Supposedly Safe Places

Among the first Coloradans to be vaccinated against COVID-19 were residents and employees of nursing homes and other senior-care centers in the state. But while these efforts initially seemed to be eliminating outbreaks at such facilities, that s clearly not the case. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has reported nearly 100 outbreaks at health-care sites in the past two weeks, with the category surpassing outbreaks at K-12 schools for the first time in months.
The CDPHE considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 44 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths in the region in its update today.
The deaths reported today include two Bradford West Gwillimbury women who were over 80 and one Innisfil woman between 65 and 79 years old.
Both Bradford resident cases were linked to the outbreak at Bradford Valley Care Community. One of the women died on Jan. 26 and one died on Feb. 1. ....

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 129 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths in the region since Friday.
All 11 deaths were Barrie residents and include seven women over 80 from Roberta Place, two men over 80 and one man between 65 and 79 years old from Roberta Place, and a woman between 65 and 79 years old whose case was not linked to Roberta Place. ....

44 new COVID-19 cases in Simcoe Muskoka and one new death

BARRIE, ONT.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reported 44 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, and one new virus-related death, bringing the region s death toll to 56.
Dr. Charles Gardner, SMDHU medical officer of health, said the latest victim is a man between 35 and 44 who died at the Muskoka Algonquin Health Centre.
His death marks the third virus-related passing in the region in the last week. On Monday, a man in his 80s died at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston and on Thursday, a woman, 65 to 79, died at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland.
According to Gardner, 13 people are in the hospital with the virus, all in Simcoe County, five of whom are in the intensive care unit. ....
