Hesitant About The Vaccine? New Milwaukee Ad Campaign Wants To Convince You Otherwise

A new multi-media ad campaign to convince hesitant people to get their COVID-19 vaccine is coming to Milwaukee County on Monday, April 12.
The campaign, called “Authentic Voices,” will feature Black and Hispanic Milwaukeeans, and those from other vulnerable populations, explaining why they’ve gotten their vaccines.
Mara Lord is chair of the Milwaukee-area vaccine communications and community mobilization efforts. She says they’ve been researching why people are vaccine hesitant, and conducting focus groups.
“Those focus groups told us some really interesting things,” she says. “First, they told us that people want simple information, they want it straight up, and they don t want to be talked down to, they want to hear the facts about the vaccine, so they can make an informed choice. ....

Community, health and local government groups in Milwaukee are encouraging people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 with a $900,000 campaign featuring those who’ve already received their shots.
The Authentic Voices campaign begins April 12 and will go through the summer. It includes door-to-door canvassing along with radio, print and television spots which will also appear on the HealthyMKE website.
The countywide outreach focuses on Milwaukee area residents who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and are undecided about receiving COVID-19 vaccinations. ....

Illinois set a record for a second straight day Wednesday with 55,865 people receiving COVID-19 vaccinations statewide, public health officials reported Thursday.
That tops the 53,628 shots that were doled out Tuesday, as vaccine administration ramps up this week entering Phase 1B of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s distribution plan.
A total of 829,428 shots have gone into arms statewide in the six weeks since the federal government shipped out the first doses six weeks ago but only 178,684 Illinoisans have received the required two doses. That’s just 1.4% of the population. ....
