The Chattanooga Technology Council, which was founded “to connect the Chattanooga technology community to help drive economic growth across the region,” has long celebrated notable IT achievements by local employers through its TechX Awards program.
This year, the Council added a new category: IT Champion for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
While this new category sounds good to the untrained ear, it is a signal that the Council is turning from rewarding excellence in performance, objectively measured, to subjectively rewarding wokeness, and, thereby, undermining its mission and undercutting technical-based local IT competitive advantages. Chattanooga State’s Caleb Grimes was awarded a $1,000 scholarship and named a 2020 ChaTech Scholar through the Chattanooga Technology Council (ChaTech).
Mr. Grimes is a 2018 graduate of Grundy County High School, a Tennessee Promise recipient and a Chattanooga State Cyber Defense program student on track to graduate in May 2021.
His interest in computers began during his freshman year in high school when he built a computer to play games with friends. “Learning the basic functions of a desktop computer was fun and interesting for me since I didn t have a clear (career) path laid out for me,” recalls Mr. Grimes. “After building one, it piqued my interest.” Using what he had already learned to repair and update computers for area residents, he became aware of the many people who were lured into downloading fraudulent so ....

GNTC Students Receive Scholarships From Chattanooga Technology Council

Lori Gallagher received a $1,000 scholarship from the Chattanooga Technology Council
Two Georgia Northwestern Technical College students were among the 18 recipients of scholarships awarded by the Chattanooga Technology Council ranging from $1,000-$2,000.
Cybersecurity majors Brittany Wattenbarger of Walker County received a $2,000 scholarship and Lori Gallagher of Bartow County received a $1,000 scholarship. ChaTech partnered with Volkswagen Chattanooga, Chattanooga’s DevOpsDays, the ChaTech CxO Auction and Sirius to award a total of $22,000 in scholarships.
“Lori Gallagher and Brittany Wattenbarger are both excellent students with great communication skills,” said Dwight Watt, program director and instructor of CISCO and Computer Information Systems at GNTC. “Both are very appreciative of the scholarships they won.” ....
