Mary DeChillo has had nothing short of a momentous career in teaching and social work.  She is a warm, bright and profoundly caring person who approaches each facet of her life with enthusiasm and energy and above all, a genuineness that challenges untruth and unkindness.
After growing up in Saco, Maine to a working class family, she went to Assumption College in Worcester and eventually to New York University for a master s degree in social work from New York University.
DeChillo’s strength is in a background which taught her from day one about class and diversity. Her father, an insurance salesman who paid his client’s premiums during their hard times, came from a poor family but he always made himself available and involved with his children. Shinrin-yoku in Japanese is the new trend in reducing stress and depression, lowering blood pressure, boosting immunity, and improving overall mental and physical health. 
For those unacquainted with the term, it essentially means taking a quiet, leisurely, mindful walk in the woods. No water is involved; just soaking up the forest “atmosphere.” That this type of activity would be good for both the mind and body should come as no surprise. People have been extolling the benefits of spending time in nature for centuries and modern studies just keep confirming it.  ....
