Casting doubts over a police encounter in PIB Colony in which four young people were killed on April 28, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has demanded of the government to conduct a high-level inquiry into the shootout and allow the relatives of the victims to lodge FIRs.
On night of April 28, the PIB Colony police claimed to have killed two notorious gangsters belonging to the Ahmed Ali Magsi gang over their alleged involvement in “extortion, drugs sale and rape of women”. Two other young people injured in the shootout also died after a few days. ....

KARACHI: Unidentified suspects allegedly stole 1.2 kilogrammes of gold and Rs8.5 million in cash from a jewellery shop in Karachi’s upmarket Clifton neighbourhood in the early hours of Monday in what appears to be the month’s second suspicious heist in the city. The owner of the shop, which is located in the Teen Talwar area, claimed that the suspects used cutters to break in and made off with over 1.2kg of gold and Rs8.5 million in cash. According to the initial police investigation, nine CCTV cameras are installed at the shop but none of them is working. Police have collected fingerprints from the shop and initiated further investigation. SHO Shabbir Haider said that the shop owner, namely Yasin, claimed that he had found the locks on the shutter broken after reaching the shop at noon on Monday. Manawatū police are appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity around power poles and lines in their community.
So far this year in the Manawatū alone, approximately 10,000 metres of copper cabling has been stolen from Powerco s electricity network, Inspector Ross Grantham said.
If anyone sees anyone acting suspiciously around power poles and lines, particularly in rural areas, they are asked to ring 111 immediately.
Police have seen many instances of potentially live wires being left hanging down, or earth cables being cut when people have stolen cables, he says. ....

Ex-1MDB CEO has suspicions on illegal activities in 1MDB between Najib, Jho Low


KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chief executive officer (CEO) told the High Court on Monday (May 17) that he had suspicions that some illegal activities were happening in the company between Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low over the US$3bil (RM12.39bil) bond issuance.
The US$3bil bond issuance involved 1MDB Global Investments Limited (1MDB GIL) to Abu Dhabi-Malaysia Investment Company (ADMIC).
Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, 47, however, said he never asked Najib, who was the prime minister at that time, to clarify the matter but shared his concern with former 1MDB chairman, Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin and Najib’s former principal private secretary, the late Datuk Azlin Alias knowing that they had access to Najib. ....
