Rabbi Elliot Schrier Named Mara D Atra of Bnai Yeshurun

Rabbi Elliot Schrier Named Mara D’Atra of Bnai Yeshurun By Elizabeth Kratz | April 28, 2021 After an exhaustive 18-month rabbinic search and interview process, punctuated by a global pandemic, Rabbi Elliot Schrier was named mara d’atra of Teaneck’s Congregation Bnai Yeshurun (CBY). The role became available when Rabbi Steven Pruzansky announced plans to make aliyah in 2019, after more than a quarter century serving at the helm of Teaneck’s 530-families-strong shul. Rabbi Schrier will join the rabbinic team of Rabbi Ari Zahtz and Assistant Rabbi Yosef Weinberger. Rabbi Schrier, who grew up in Woodmere, will complete his move to CBY late this summer as he winds up his rabbinic duties at the Albert Einstein Synagogue at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, where he has served since 2016.

Introducing the CBY Teaneck Daily Internet Minyan

Introducing the CBY Teaneck Daily Internet Minyan By Dov Pavel | February 10, 2021 Congregation Bnai Yeshurun of Teaneck recently launched the Internet Minyan, which will stream live daily Shacharit, Mincha and Maariv, except of course on Shabbat and Yom Tov. At the outbreak of COVID-19, Zoom tefillah groups sprang up across the country. Many individuals davening alone were able to join others via Zoom. While not halachically constituting a minyan, this at least offered the feeling of tefilah b’tzibur while in lockdown. Once the lockdown ended and people began to feel a bit more safe, live minyanim formed and were sometimes streamed on Zoom so those who were unable to attend in-person could participate virtually. While Zoom minyanim were very popular, their broad availability diminished considerably once outdoor minyanim became commonplace and indoor minyanim resumed with precautions.

Mermelstein Family Marks Shelly s First Yahrzeit

By Michal Rosenberg | December 16, 2020 It’s hard to believe a year has gone by since the horrific car accident that shook the Teaneck community and claimed the life of Shelly Mermelstein, z”l, longtime Teaneck resident, beloved community staple and true baal chesed. In honor of his first yahrzeit, his family gathered together Motzei Shabbat Chanukah, with some close friends, to make two siyumim and remember a man who valued Torah and family above all. Before the Mermelsteins’ oldest son, Chaim Mayer, made a siyum on Shisha Sidrei Mishna, he shared that in every masechet he learned he found something to remind him of his father something his father was careful about or interested in; that is the result of living a life dedicated to Torah.
