Del. Tech receives grant to expand community health programming, job placement at core

DELAWARE, – Delaware Technical Community College has plans to expand their Community Health Worker Program thanks to a grant from Bank of America.
The funding allows 20 students the opportunity to complete the program for free.
The grant is part of a 4-year $250,000 commitment that Bank of America made in 2019.
The $62,000 third installment allows the college to expand the program to all 4 for their campuses.
Officials say that the need came from the program’s growth after the pandemic highlighted the need for workers in the field. “These workers are trusted members of the communities that they serve and they usually share ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status, and life experiences with other members of the community,” said Vice President for Institutional Effective and Development Judi Sciple. ....

CTSI Translational Pilot Studies Program awards 13 new grants for 2021-22 - UB Now: News and views for UB faculty and staff


UB’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) has awarded 13 new grants to support innovative translational research projects in Western New York. The CTSI Translational Pilot Studies Program provides seed money to investigators to assist them in developing promising new technologies and therapeutics from the conceptual stage to clinical studies.
“The pilot studies grant awardees for 2021-22 include projects that address significant translational research questions,” says CTSI Pilot Studies Program Director Brahm Segal, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and professor of oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. “In addition to developing new methods and technologies, these projects will foster cross-disciplinary collaborations and mentoring relationships.” ....

Pennsylvania-based retail chain Weis Markets announced Wednesday that it would begin vaccinating patients in 55 of its in-store pharmacies starting January 21.
The supermarket chain cited Center for Disease Control guidelines and state Health Department guidance to begin vaccinating patients aged 65 or older.
Those eligible for a vaccine can schedule an appointment on Weis Market s website.
Positive COVID-19 Cases Increasing in Pennsylvania
(Harrisburg, PA)   New COVID-19 cases are increasing in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported almost six-thousand new cases yesterday. There are currently more than 4,500 people who are hospitalized in the state with the virus.  
401 more people also passed away due to complications of COVID-19. ....
