Healthbarn launches $1 million food program kicks off in North Jersey

RIDGEWOOD — Eleven days after receiving a $1 million grant to employ local restaurants in feeding Bergen County's hungry, the HealthBarn Foundation launched its first meal deliveries Monday.
Director Stacey Antine said 10 restaurants, including the Chestnut Deli, were engaged in sending a total of 910 meals to various locations, including the Franciscan Community Development Center in Fairview. The deliveries will continue through May 31.
Bergen County Commissioner Tracy Zur is coordinating the distribution of the meals through the commission's Food Security Task Force, and said the meals are being distributed on a scheduled basis to a variety of institutions.
"Residents should check with their nearest food  pantry for a location and their guidelines to receive a meal," Zur said.

Where to volunteer in North Jersey for MLK Day of Service

NorthJersey.com
Every third Monday of January, the country celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of service.
This year, the day honoring the civil rights leader falls on Jan. 18, three days after King's birthday on Jan. 15.
Nearly 53 years after his death, the fight for racial justice is not over. The murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many other Black Americans have ignited protests and activism in the name of the equality fought for by Dr. King.
Looking to participate in an act of service this year in honor of King? Here are North Jersey non-profits and organizations you can donate-to or volunteer-at This MLK Day of Service.
