The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center presented the Overcoming Obstacles Awards and the Excellence in Community Inclusion Award at Dover High School’s Auditorium on April 22. 
The Overcoming Obstacles Awards started in 2015. They are presented to one student from each school district in Tuscarawas County for their dedication and perseverance in overcoming obstacles to achieve success in school. This year’s award winners were Marcus Angle from Buckeye Career Center, Ray Anderson from Claymont High School, Haylee Myers from Conotton Valley High School, Kensington Fisher from Dover High School, Derek Mackey from Garaway High School, Jessica Robinson from Indian ValleyHigh School, Kody Ames from New Philadelphia High School, John Allen Rose from Newcomerstown High School and Josh Hampton from Tuscarawas Valley High School.  ....

Concord School District is launching a parent advisory council on special education next week, a partnership that district officials hope will make Concord a leader in the state.
Concord’s new Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) will be a partnership between parents and the school district with the purpose of improving communication, advocating for positive change and enhancing special education service delivery. The first meeting is scheduled for April 15.
The idea for the council was presented to the Concord School Board Instructional Committee Jan. 13 and the full board Feb. 1 by Student Services Director Bob Belmont, who says he worked with a similar advisory council in Massachusetts before coming to work in Concord over a decade ago. ....
