Mayor Gloria announces proposed housing measures for San Diego

Mayor Todd Gloria announced a series of proposed affordable housing initiatives that he says will encourage the development of more homes for residents of all income levels.
Calling his package of ideas “Homes For All of Us, Gloria said Monday that the city’s planning department is working to expedite them to create more housing options for people regardless of age, income or neighborhood. Housing stability, affordability and proximity are some of San Diego’s root challenges, Gloria said.
“We don’t have nearly enough homes that our residents can afford,” he said; “that makes addressing these challenges so much harder.” ....

As reported last month, in light of the pandemic, the planning department provided guidance to community planning groups (CPGs) on how to handle elections this year since face-to-face meetings are simply not practicable. The options ranged from mail-in voting to online voting or simply postponing the elections until the local state of emergency is lifted.
Due to the light at the end of the tunnel provided by the vaccine rollout, the College Area Community Planning Board (CACPB) & Council voted to postpone the election. It is anticipated that the state of emergency will be lifted by the end of the summer, God willing. You will be updated as we get closer to the target horizon. ....

Alpine struggles to stay safe from fires

The plan update considers increased densities in and adjacent to forest lands.
In Alpine s latest Community Plan Update, wildfire has its own standalone section, a result of changes to the environmental review process made by the state in 2018.
The idea was to put the brakes on development in places most prone to wildfire and other hazards. Alpine, 25 miles east of San Diego, has many such areas. Its long fire history includes the 2003 Cedar fire, among the state s worst. Last September, the Valley fire torched 76,067 acres.
But the update to the existing 1979 Alpine Community Plan considers increased densities in and adjacent to forest lands. ....
