NRC, youth organization at odds over sound policy

The PowerPuff flag football game on the Hunnewell track and field was not the traditional pre-Thanksgiving clash between Needham and Wellesley senior women. The pandemic  ended, but on June 7, the Wellesley High School players took to the field on their own Needham couldn t field a team and played a not-to-be-forgotten game.
There was only one problem: the Wellesley Natural Resources Commission, which oversees the field, has a no-amplified-music policy and there was music playing. Joe Roberts, director of the nonprofit youth sports group Community Investors,  applied in May to the NRC board on the part of the organization to have a sound system for the game, but the request was denied. ....

Community Investors, a Wellesley based nonprofit, was recently recognized by the President s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition (https://health.gov) and the U.S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion as a National Youth Sports Strategy Champion for their work supporting community-based recreation. Community Investors received a digital NYSS Champion badge that signifies this prestigious award and continues to be committed to their support of the NYSS by facilitating free, afterschool sports for K-12 grade students throughout the greater Wellesley-MetroWest region. How Real Estate Council CEO Linda McMahon is Changing Dallas

Ask anyone in the Dallas commercial real estate community to name some of the city’s most admired professionals, and Linda McMahon will be on that list. Over the past decade, the TREC president and CEO has tirelessly worked to improve North Texas. 
McMahon has championed neighborhood revitalization initiatives, such as the Dallas Catalyst Project, which invests more than $1 million in grants and pro bono services to revitalize the Forest District in southern Dallas. She also has been behind TREC launching an Affordable Housing Fund with $2.6 million in seed funding from the PRO Neighborhoods investment and an additional grant from AT&T. Last year, McMahon was one of three North Texans asked to participate in a statewide effort to develop a steering policy to benefit urban areas. ....

MLK Food Park in South Dallas is A Welcome Community Space


More than 1,500 people were drawn to the opening weekend of a new pop-up food park in South Dallas that launched this past Friday. The aptly named MLK Food Park sits at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Holmes Street, just a few blocks away from the recently renovated Forest Theatre.
The MLK Food Park is open each weekend, Friday to Sunday, until May 2. More than two dozen primarily Black-owned small businesses based south of Interstate 30 will be showcased throughout the duration of the pop-up.
“About 95% of the businesses are Black-owned, and 5% are Hispanic-owned,” says Kirsten Lieber, senior project manager at the Better Block Foundation. ....
