Taliban have issued new laws and regulations in recently captured districts in Afghanistan s northeastern province of Takhar ordering women to not leave home alone and men to grow their beards among other diktats, reports have said. Ariana News cited civil society activists in Takhar as saying that the Taliban have also have set dowry regulations for girls. “They urged women in a statement to not leave without a relative (Moharam) and also urged men to have beards,” Merajuddin Sharifi, a civil society activist in Takhar, was quoted as saying by Ariana News. Sharifi also said the “Taliban insist on trials without evidence.” ....

WASHINGTON: The Taliban “would roll back much” of the progress made in Afghan women’s rights if they regain power, according to an assessment released on Tuesday by top US intelligence analysts.
The US National Intelligence Council report is likely to reinforce fears that the Taliban will resume the harsh treatment that women and girls suffered under their 1996-2001 rule should they prevail in a full-blown civil war.
“The Taliban remain broadly consistent in restrictive approach to women’s rights and would roll back much of the past two decades of progress if the group regains national power,” said the US intelligence community’s top analytical body. ....

WASHINGTON - A newly declassified U.S. intelligence assessment warns that women in Afghanistan are likely to see their rights disappear should the Taliban come to power following the withdrawal of U.S. forces.
The two-page Sense of the Community Memorandum, released Tuesday by the U.S. National Intelligence Council, finds no reason to believe the Taliban have changed their views on women s rights despite some public statements to the contrary.
The Taliban remains broadly consistent in its restrictive approach to women s rights and would roll back much of the past two decades progress if the group regained national power, the assessment states. ....
