Boisvert was bullied in her last two years of middle school and it led to what she called a suicidal depression. Instead of discussing with others how she was feeling, Boisvert kept it buried deep inside. “I had no idea how to handle it,” she said. “I never really fully recovered from it. It affects me so much to this day.” But Boisvert has seen changes in herself, especially after she started to be more open about how she was feeling – to her parents, friends and a counselor. ....

The center’s mission, after all, is to offer open arms to all who’ve been released from Cook County Jail in the hope they will let Dart’s team connect them with social services to combat issues ranging from addiction to homelessness. But all are welcome, not just those who end up in his jail. The one-stop support agency has been quietly functioning since September on a mostly virtual basis. Dart held a news conference downtown Wednesday to get the word out. ....
CARLSBAD Carlsbad approved a 12-month pilot hotel-motel voucher program last week as part of an array of new and expanded services intended to reduce homelessness by 50 percent in the city over the next five years. The voucher program is expected to cost up to $3.2 million, though reimbursement may be available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for expenses incurred through September. The city hopes to have it “up and running” by June, said Deputy City Manager Gary Barberio. “We know this program is of great interest to the community, Barberio said. “Lots of concerns and questions have been raised.” Two of the homeless people often found at Magee Park said Friday morning they would be glad to get motel rooms. Located along Carlsbad Boulevard, just south of the Army and Navy Academy, the park has public restrooms, water fountains and shady nooks that make it a regular stop for the unsheltered. ....
