Krista Lark Slater wanted to be a museum curator. At least, that’s what she thought when she was in college. Instead, she took her artistic background in a different, more refreshing direction — into the world of wine.
Lark Slater is a certified sommelier, or wine professional, and has worked for years in the restaurant industry, but she has only recently begun to pursue one of her passion projects. She opened The Lark Winespace on Prince Avenue last fall, and while it’s her newest venture, it’s far from her first. Thai-American Charity Waltenbaugh grew up in the charming wine country of Oregon in the United States. Her early life among the fruit orchards, historic towns, craft breweries and farms of the Willamette Valley didn’t initially inspire her to get into wine, but the environment certainly defines who she is today a fitness enthusiast, avid cross country runner and lover of the great outdoors. After moving to California, first Los Angeles and then later the Bay Area, Charity started working in restaurants and was persuaded by a certified master sommelier to take the Wine and Spirit Education Trust’s level 2 qualification. Today she puts her skills to good use at Ekamai eatery Cadence by chef Dan Bark, himself a Korean-American intent on showcasing a progressive culinary style. The wines Charity curates for the restaurant encompass comfortingly familiar Old World labels but also New World upstarts packed with explosive flavours and interesting textures. ....

Drop wine app crowdfund Will Palmer Ian Campbell


The duo behind Covent Garden s 10 Cases and Parsons are crowdfunding to rollout their on-demand wine delivery app Drop across the UK.
How is the raise going?​

Will Palmer: Right now we ve raised £440,583 from 464 investors off an initial target of £300,000.
The crowdfund has now been extended to 18 February.​​ Demand for wine delivery continues to surge with each lockdown. We’ve seen our customer base double and sales grow by 145% during the pandemic. 
How did the app come about? ​
Ian Campbell: Four or five years ago we were looking at a second site for 10 Cases, in Soho. It was actually the site that Kricket ended up taking (on Denman Street). It has a massive basement. We didn’t like the thought of sending customers down there so we started thinking about alternative uses. We had a few different ideas but eventually settled on a delivery service. Downtown San Antonio wine-tasting room Re:Rooted 210 opens this week

Re:Rooted 210, located in the quick-growing Hemisfair area, will open Thursday, February 11, welcoming guests with a tasting menu 100% dedicated to Texas wines specifically, varietals produced under contract for its own label.
“It’s been a long road, but we’re so excited to be here,” owner and winemaker Jennifer Beckmann said. “It’ll be by the skin of our teeth, but we’ll be open Thursday.”
Despite pandemic- and construction-induced setbacks, Beckmann along with husband and business partner John  will offer seven varietals, two sizes of cheese plates and cozy vibes in their gorgeous renovated space. The pair expect to add other Texas wines to the menu over time. ....
