Teen injured in Monday night crash | News, Sports, Jobs

NORMANIA TOWNSHIP A Minneota teen was injured in a single-vehicle crash reported Monday night in Yellow Medicine County, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
The crash was reported at 8:09 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and 168th Avenue. A 2013 Dodge Durango driven by Rhonda Kay Callens, 50, of Minneota, was traveling westbound on 170th Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway, the State Patrol said. One passenger in the vehicle, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries. Callens and a second passenger, age 14, were uninjured, the State Patrol said.
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office and Cottonwood Ambulance responded at the crash scene. ....

Two injured in Thursday crash | News, Sports, Jobs - Marshall Independent

COTTONWOOD Two people were seriously injured in a Thursday night crash where a vehicle struck a utility pole, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.
A 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both from Elysian, were transported to hospitals in Sioux Falls and Robbinsdale.
The crash was reported around 8:22 p.m., on the 3300 block of Lyon County Road 10 near Cottonwood, the Sheriff’s Office said. A single vehicle appeared to have left the roadway and hit an electrical utility pole by the side of the road.
The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Fleming, 37, and passenger Melissa Lindquist, 40, were trapped inside the damaged vehicle and needed to be extricated by firefighters. Fleming and Lindquist were both transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center, and later airlifted to other hospitals, the Sheriff’s Office said. ....

Craig Maki, a physician assistant at Avera Marshall, pointed out some of the familiar faces in a picture of area doctors on the hospitalâs history wall. Maki has worked in southwest Minnesota communities including Lamberton, Granite Falls, Tyler and Marshall since 1984. He will be retiring at the end of next week.

HANLEY FALLS Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 23 Tuesday evening, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
A Slayton man and a Raymond man were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.
The crash was reported at 6:04 p.m. at Minnesota Highway 23 and 510th Street in Hanley Falls. A 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Leighton Riley Helmuth, 18, of Raymond, was northbound on 510th Street, and a 2002 Chevy Silverado driven by William Joseph Robinson, 62, of Slayton, was southbound on Highway 23 when the vehicles collided.
Robinson was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, and Helmuth was taken to Avera Granite Falls with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. ....

Walz lays out timeline for future COVID vaccines | News, Sports, Jobs

As Minnesota continues to roll out COVID-19 vaccines, the focus will stay on seniors for a little longer.
Gov. Tim Walz announced Thursday that the state will wait until 70% of adults age 65 and older are vaccinated before expanding eligibility to other high-risk groups.
Walz and the Minnesota Department of Health laid out a timeline for COVID vaccinations that estimated the state could meet that goal by the end of March, and then open up vaccinations for food plant workers and people with health conditions that make them especially vulnerable to COVID-19.
Walz said Minnesota has made a lot of progress in COVID-19 response, as the number of COVID deaths statewide have dropped rapidly. COVID deaths among long-term care residents are down 97% from their November peak, he said. ....
