CARRABELLE, Fla. (WTXL) — It’s a hidden gem buried inside Florida’s Forgotten Coast.
“It is 103 feet tall. It has 138 stairs. It’s one of a number of lighthouses that has an exoskeleton which is a structural framework,“ said Steve Allen, the President of the Carrabelle Lighthouse Association.
Allen has been with the organization for six years. The Crooked River Lighthouse has been a fixture along U.S. Highway 98 in Franklin County for more than a century. It once guided sailors. Now, it’s a museum filled with stories. ....

The Carrabelle History Museum is hosting the Carrabelle Culture Crawl on Saturday, March 20, 2021, 10 am to 3 pm. This cultural event is a free celebration of amazing local culture, art, music, history, food, and fun in the heart of downtown Carrabelle.  This is a wonderful opportunity to add a bit more fun as you experience the wonderful local culture, art, history, and food that Carrabelle already has to offer.
 
The Carrabelle History Museum will be bringing live, outdoor (socially-distanced) music to the streets of Carrabelle, from Florida folk music to more current Country and Rock music to favorite oldies. Musicians like Susan David, Christy Crandall, Lewis Christie (with his keyboard), Cody Barber and Highway 98 featuring Tom Magnam and David Cosgrove will be performing outdoors for all to enjoy.  ....

Bella Figura literally translates from Italian to “good figure.”
But as a common saying, explains retired First District Court of Appeal Judge Philip Padovano, it means much more.
“It’s an Italian expression for how you should live your life,” he explained. “Italians have this thing about representing your family, that you’re going to be a good representative of your family, you’re always going to dress neatly, and not look like a slob. You’re not going to drink too much in public, you’re going to always make a good impression. They call that ‘Bella Figura.’” ....

CARRABELLE A special exhibit honoring African American servicemen opened Feb. 2 at the Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum.
African Americans served in large numbers during WWII, in spite of being denied full rights as American citizens, said a release from Sheri Wesson, public relations coordinator for the museum. African Americans served in segregated units in both the Army and the Army Air Corps, one of the most recognizable being the Tuskegee Airmen.
Many trained at Camp Gordon Johnston near Carrabelle in support units like Amphibious Truck companies, Wesson noted, and even these participated in combat, including at Iwo Jima, where 21 U.S. Army units supported the 4th and 5th Marines. ....
