U.S. Copyright Groups Praise UAE's Enforcement Against 'Illegal' VPN and Tor Use * TorrentFreak

The IIPA, which represents the MPA, RIAA, and other entertainment industry groups, is pleased with the United Arab Emirates strict enforcement against the use of VPNs and Tor to access pirate sites. The industry group, however, urges the UAE authorities to go a step further and require VPNs to actively ban copyright-infringing activity.
The International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) represents the interests of several prominent copyright groups, including the MPA, RIAA, and ESA.
The group keeps a close eye on various copyright developments around the world and regularly reports its findings to the Office of the US Trade Representative.
In its most recent submission, the IIPA shared its recommendations for the upcoming “Special 301” report. This is the annual ‘watch list’ where the US Government calls out countries that need to improve their copyright policies. ....

US entertainment giants are fronting the enactment of tougher copyright laws as part of ongoing negotiations in the free trade agreement between the two countries.
The United States wants Kenyan authorities to introduce tougher copyright laws in a move that could significantly change the technology and entertainment industries in East Africa’s largest economy.
The demands are part of negotiating objectives in the Kenya-US trade talks that require Kenya’s commitment before the bilateral deal between the two countries is signed.
In a letter to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, more than 3,200 companies, led by entertainment giants including Netflix, Walt Disney Studios, Universal City Studios and Warner Brothers, have asked Kenya to overhaul copyright legislation by introducing tougher penalties for both individuals and corporates aiding copyright violat ....

Created in 1984, the International Intellectual Property Alliance is a private-sector coalition of five trade associations representing companies in the United States that produce copyright-protected content including computer software, films, television programs, music, books, and journals.
