Domestic violence has many faces. However the majority of its victims are still women, said an RCMP panel member at a forum on poverty and homelessness. Const. Jason Hansen, a 13-year police veteran, told the small crowd at Saturday’s CFUW (Canadian Federation of University Women) event that though there are male victims, “the majority are still female.”
Each province has its own policies and follows directives from the attorney general’s office, he noted. The directive allows police officers to lay charges against the alleged perpetrator even when the spouse does not cooperate.
“We’re not usually called during the honeymoon stage and invited over for tea,” he said, wryly. Further, there is a “comprehensive definition” of violence which includes intimidation, threats (of physical or sexual harm) and even financial deprivation. He noted that police response to domestic violence took a new turn between 1998 and 2004 in light of certain high-profile murder ....

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced the appointment of two new management members.
They are Prof. Opoku Mensah, an Associate Professor of Industrial and Organisational Psychology who is joining the Faculty of Management Studies of UPSA and assumes office as Director of the Centre for
International Education and Collaboration (CIEC) and Mrs. Aba Lokko who is also joining the UPSA as the Director of Public Affairs.
