James Waller


Dr. James Waller is the Cohen Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and chair of that same department, at Keene State College (NH-US). In addition, he serves as Director of Academic Programs for the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities, an international NGO devoted to atrocity prevention. He is the author of five books, most notably his award-winning Becoming Evil: How Ordinary People Commit Genocide and Mass Killing (Oxford University Press, 2nd ed., 2007) and Confronting Evil: Engaging Our Responsibility to Prevent Genocide (Oxford University Press, 2016). His sixth book, A Troubled Sleep: Risk and Resilience in Contemporary Northern Ireland, was released by Oxford University Press in April 2021. Waller has held numerous visiting professorships, most recently as an honorary visiting research professor at in the George J. Commemorating 50 years of Bangladesh Genocide: Global Virtual Conference organised by Liberation War Museum

On Friday, 12 March 2021, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh organised an online global conference titled Global Virtual Conference on Commemorating Past Genocides and Learning to Prevent Atrocity Crimes . It was a 24-hour round global conference where academics, researchers, professionals, experts and institutional representatives worldwide participated by presenting papers and notes on various topics related to the on-going genocides and Bangladesh s struggle in 1971.
The focus of many of the panels were on the issues of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, transitional justice, victimisation, memorialisation, memory words and role of the museums in digital age etc. The purpose of the conference was to promote a global understanding of genocide including the world-wide recognition of Bangladesh Genocide. ....

Kjell Anderson is a jurist and social scientist specialised in the study of human rights, mass violence, and mass atrocities. He is the author of Perpetrating Genocide: A Criminological Account (Routledge 2019), and the forthcoming volumes The Dilemma of Dominic Ongwen: From Child Abductee to War Criminal (Rutgers University Press, 2020); and Approaching Perpetrators: Insights on Ethics, Methods, and Theory (University of Wisconsin Press, 2020).
Anderson’s work experience encompasses advocacy for victims of torture and sexual violence in Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo for FACT-Rwanda (Forum des Activistes Contre la Torture), leading the rule of law program at The Hague Institute for Global Justice, working at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on indigenous issues, acting as a legal researcher at the Special Court for Sierra Leone, and teaching at the University of the Fraser Valley, Leiden University, the University of Amsterdam, the Nation ....
