Anjali Bhardwaj among 12 activists recognised for combating corruption, ensuring accountability
Right to Information (RTI) activist Anjali Bhardwaj is among 12 people being honoured by the United States government with a new International Anti-corruption Champions Award.
The award is meant to recognise individuals “who have worked tirelessly, often in the face of adversity, to defend transparency, combat corruption, and ensure accountability in their own countries,” U.S. Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ms. Bhardwaj has been chosen as one of the recipients for the inaugural edition of the award, along with activists from other developing countries. She is a co-convenor of the National Campaign for People’s Right to Information, and has been involved in the RTI movement for over two decades. ....

Mayor Vico after being hailed as anti-corruption champ: We need to fight corruption, denormalize it

“If we want better long-term governance, we need to fight corruption. We have to denormalize it, get it out of our culture,” Sotto said in his official Twitter account.
The US State Department hailed the young mayor for prioritizing anti-corruption and transparency initiatives in the City of Pasig.
Sotto expressed gratitude to the US State Department for the recognition.
“But more than the recognition, I hope this helps raise awareness,” the mayor said.
The International Anti-corruption Champions Award of the US State Department, which seeks to recognize individuals who have demonstrated leadership, courage, and impact in preventing, exposing, and combating corruption, described Sotto as a “standard-bearer for a new generation of Philippine politicians.” ....
