Can China produce a car to take on Tesla? Last year saw two models account for 20 per cent of sales for plug-in electric cars, or what China calls new energy vehicles (NEV). The made-in-China Tesla Model 3 went on sale right at the beginning of 2020, and went on to claim 11 per cent over the year. The ultra-compact Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, released in the middle of the year, took second place, with retail prices starting as low as 28,800 yuan (YS$4,400) helping it eclipse Tesla sales in several calendar months. ....

Jaguar to make only electric cars by 2025

Jaguar Land Rover said its luxury brand Jaguar will go all-electric by 2025 as it aims to become a net-zero carbon business by 2039.
The car maker s second brand, Land Rover, which makes sports utility vehicles under the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender name plates, will release six electric models in the next five years. The first model will hit the market in 2024.
Under its new Reimagine plan, JLR, which is owned by an Indian conglomerate Tata Group, said it was aiming for the electrification of both brands on “separate architectures with two clear, unique personalities”.
The announcement comes after the UK government decided in November to stop selling fossil-fuel cars from 2030. ....

BMW cuts prices for its China-made electric SUV by $10,000

BMW s all-electric iX3 SUV will cost 399,900 yuan ($61,713) to 439,900 yuan in China as of Thursday, the German automaker said on its website.
That s down about $10,800 from the original price range of 470,000 yuan to 510,000 yuan announced in September.
The new price brings BMW s China-made iX3 into a closer range with locally available electric cars from Tesla and Chinese start-ups.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Nissan Motor is accelerating the rollout of electric vehicles in China under its main brand and its local, no-frills Venucia marque as it overhauls its strategy in the world s biggest auto market, four sources told Reuters.
Besides the focus on green vehicles, the plan involves using more locally made parts and technologies to reduce costs and help the struggling Japanese carmaker compete better with lower-cost Chinese firms and major global rivals, the sources said. ....
