A UK minister has climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest by walking up and down his church bell tower to raise money for charity.
Premier News reports Craig Bentley of St Mark’s Church in Cumbria climbed the bell tower 500 times in one-week to complete his mission.
He raised more than $5000 for the International Nepal Fellowship and the church’s community work.
Reverend Bentley spent 9 years as a police dog handler in the R-A-F before becoming a trainee vicar.
He says with COVID-19 affecting so many, the church decided that half the money raised should go overseas. ....

EVEREST CHALLENGE
REVEREND Craig Bentley has raised £6,500 through the St Mark’s Church’s Mount Everest challenge.
Rev Bentley has raised thousands of pounds through an online JustGiving page by ascending the Church s tower 500 times.
A curate at St Mark’s in Natland, and a former RAF police dog handler, Rev Bentley took on the challenge to support the work of the church and the International Nepal Fellowship.

His two previous attempts were temporarily blocked by the lockdown, but the challenge finally went ahead on April 25.
During the climb he has been interviewed live on Radio Cumbria breakfast and had a five-minute piece on Border evening local news show. ....

A church curate has set out on a dizzying challenge to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest by walking up and down his church s tower.
The Rev Craig Bentley, curate at St Mark’s in Natland, is working towards ascending the church’s tower 500 times to support the work of the church and the International Nepal Fellowship.
After two postponements due to lockdown, the ex-RAF police dog handler got out of the blocks at the weekend to begin his exhausting mission.
And, on Wednesday, he reached 300 ascents.
“It’s going really well,” said the curate, Mr Bentley.
“I’m trying to do about 80 a day and hopefully I’ll do the last 10 just before this week’s 10am Sunday service. ....

Reverend Craig Bentley's Mount Everest church tower climb to go ahead

Revd Craig Bentley will at last attempt his postponed solo climb of St Mark s Church Tower.
Craig hopes to scale the equivalent of Mount Everest by climbing 500 times up the narrow staircase inside the tower.
His ascent will now start on April 26, and he aims to raise the flag at the summit by May2.
