The pangolin must be nature’s oddest mammal. It has been on this earth for 80 million years and is the only mammal with scales, something that keeps it safe from almost all predators, except for one – humans, who have, of course, been around for a lot less time.
There are eight species of pangolin in the world, four in Africa and four in Asia, and all are vulnerable to human greed. Both meat and scales are sought-after in the Far East, and in 2019 alone, 97 tonnes of pangolin scales that were being illegally traded were intercepted. That represents almost 2,000 dead pangolins – and you can bet it was just the tip of the iceberg. ....

Last week, the US dropped charges and withdrew an extradition case against Jabir, giving a breather to Dawood, India s most wanted fugitive, declared a global terrorist by several countries.

Is this just another “repackaged … anonymously sourced stories” that the media has been running about Matt Gaetz, as his spokesman commented when contacted by the Washington Post? Not quite, although it certainly does recycle those stories and sells the article as an explainer on “How the Justice Department Came to Investigate Rep. Matt Gaetz.” A more accurate description might be how the DoJ and the media might be being duped by a con man looking to find any way out of a federal sex-trafficking indictment.

Subway has confirmed an incident that prompted an emergency callout to its store in the Rotorua Central Mall and witness reports of a loud bang was not an explosion.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman said two crews were sent to the scene about 12.30pm where they were dealing with a small refrigerator leak .
The callout was initially thought to be an explosion, but it was quickly discovered this was a misinterpretation between the 111 caller and call taker, the spokeswoman said. ....
