The ceremony, led by the President of Downtown San Angelo Del Velasquez on May 3, featured a number of speakers including newly re-elected Mayor of San Angelo Brenda Gunter and City Councilman Harry Thomas.

Archway installed welcoming visitors to 'Historic Downtown' San Angelo

SAN ANGELO Visitors traveling along Concho Avenue to San Angelo s historic downtown district will now be welcomed by a new archway installed as part of efforts to revitalize the area.
Crews installed the archway Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the corner of Randolph and Concho Ave, a project that includes the placement of 12 historic street lights along the Concho Ave. corridor from Koenigheim to Randolph.
The archway will stand tall welcoming all those who travel to downtown seeking art, dining, shopping, and entertainment, wrote Del Velasquez, Executive Director of Downtown San Angelo, Inc. in a news release.
Velasquez stated initial discussions of creating a gateway and well-lit entryway into historic downtown began in 2007, then became a reality in 2019 after financial contributions by the San Angelo Area Foundation, San Angelo Health Foundation, First Financial Bank, and San Angelo YMCA. ....

SAN ANGELO, TX On Thursday evening, the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce hosted the 105th Annual Banquet at the First Financial Pavillion. The event featured some of San Angelo s most well-known faces and the presentation of the 2020 Citizen of the Year.
The main portion of the event kicked off with a video slideshow showcasing all the ups and down this community endured in the middle of a pandemic while coming together to support one another.
Each year a committee of the previous Citizen of the Year recipients meet to deliberate on and choose the next recipient. The Citizen of the Year is identified as an individual who has contributed significantly to the quality of life in the community and who has been involved in quality and effective volunteer work. ....

19 San Angelo Non-Profits Receive $669,415 in Grant Money

SAN ANGELO, TX Board Chair Marilyn Aboussie announced the San Angelo Health Foundation has awarded $669,415 to 19 nonprofit organizations. With the addition of these grants, 224 organizations and 801 projects have benefitted from Foundation funding since inception in the 1990s.
Grants Chair David Lupton said the following grants encompass community impact, health care, mental health, public safety and youth enrichment:
Galilee Community Development Corporation was awarded $300,000 to relocate their offices. Galilee’s mission is to develop affordable housing for low to middle income families of the Concho Valley. They have provided over 60 new single-family homes, have 36 rental homes available for low-income residents and a variety of assistance program to prevent homelessness. ....
