San Joaquin County continues to remain in the state s red tier of COVID-19 restrictions for the fourth week in a row partially due to social gatherings such as Easter, vaccine hesitancy and individuals not following safety protocols, county officials said at a briefing Wednesday.
As of Wednesday, San Joaquin County reported 51 residents hospitalized with 15 of them in the intensive care unit, an increase from last week s 31 cases.
The county s adjusted case rate is 8.2, which is up from the 7.7 mark it was at last week and in recent days has increased as high as 8.9.
San Joaquin’s businesses stuck in red tier as some wonder if tiers actually matter anymore
San Joaquin County wasn’t able to earn a credit toward the orange tier, but with a potential end to the tier system looming, does that actually matter anymore? Author: Eric Escalante Updated: 6:21 PM PDT April 28, 2021
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. San Joaquin County is stuck once again in the red tier of California’s reopening plan. But unlike the stall they had in the purple tier, the state s reopening is in sight, regardless of their tier status.
In early April, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the tier system, which has defined the way counties have reopened for months, could be going away on June 15. Should the state meet the criteria on June 15, everyday activities would be allowed, and businesses would be open with modifications.

The San Joaquin Regional Transit District will celebrate Earth Day on Thursday, April 22, by offering free rides on all BRT Express, Local, and Hopper routes, RTD officials said Wednesday.
The free rides aim to help encourage people to leave their cars at home and take public transit, the agency said in a news release. The promotion excludes Commuter and Van Go! services. Riders can plan their trips at sjRTD.com/trip-planner.
Earth Day is the perfect day to try public transportation, because it promotes clean living and a healthy, sustainable habitat for people and wildlife alike, RTD said; public transportation contributes to a cleaner earth by saving the United States 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually.

It’s still too early to know if PG&E will impose a public safety power shutoff this summer to eliminate the possibility of a destructive wildfire.
But if they do, the City of Lathrop will be ready – and there will not be any interruptions to the city’s communications capabilities during the crisis.
Last week the Lathrop City Council approved the creation of a capital improvement project to purchase a 250 KW EPA-certified diesel generator that will be installed at Lathrop City Hall to protect the city’s vital communication infrastructure in case of a utility-mandated outage that could affect Lathrop residents.
